Review: (Video review)
The angel Exodus only has two weeks left on his sentence on Earth, before he can return to Heaven. He just needs to stay clear from temptation a little longer. But perhaps temptation is what gives us purpose. When he meets Niki he starts to question where he belongs and his heart is torn from a heavenly existence to staying beside a terminally ill woman that he falls deeper and deeper in love with. This is a feel good story which gives you hope that the wold has goodness, that men can be all you want them to be and that life sometimes can turn out alright. It is a romantic tale to indulge in when you just want to crawl under the duvet and forget about the troubles in the real world.
Message & Moral
The book seems to want to deliver the message of belonging for a purpose, for love. Your home isn’t always where you think it should be, but where your heart takes you. You need to follow your dreams and listen to your heart. Sometimes YOU don’t get to decide where that is, but your feelings will guide you. Forbidden love, can be defeated by will and hard work. Kindness will lead you in the right direction.
Creatures & Environment
That the protagonist isn’t a strong character that saves the world is rather rare from the genre of books that I am used to reading. Niki has a heart condition, which cripples her in her everyday work, running her late grandmother’s diner. This is what Exodus finds endearing at their first encounter, but later falls deeply in love with. Their relationship is depicted very romantically and it is a joy to let your heart enter into their journey.
Captivation and Continuity
The way that Exodus keeps trying to find ways of courting Niki, who isn’t very receptive to flirtatious romances, is humanistic in an endearing way. There wasn’t much suspense in the story, until the end when a past demon girlfriend pays Exodus a visit and tries to win him back in the most vile way that almost costs Niki her life.
Language & Flow
The language is explanatory and clear with no difficult terms to follow. It was not a difficult read and is meant to give the reader a romantic feel. This is a beautiful read.
