Review: (Video review)
This is a perfectly written dragon-shifting prequel novella to the Dracones series. The way Sheri-Lynn has captured the dragon monarchy; Thundrance and Thunrece’s leadership to protect their dragonkind is craft of high skill. To understand the history of the Dracones, Sheri-Lynn paints an endearing family picture were every one of the 34 dragons are unique and important. The love between Skullathorn and his mate Kiahthorn is connected by their love for their children who are all able to communicate telepathically. This novella has so much to offer in a short period of time, yet makes you so clearly understand all the goals, cultures and troubles the family is facing through a vast galaxy and the 52 realms of their own world.
Message & Moral
To be goodhearted doesn’t always turn out well, however if you keep a true heart the good will prevail. No matter the struggles you should stay away from the dark side. This is something Skullathorn learns the hard way as he seeks exile in a far away realm after having been driven to insanity. An insanity brought on by a painstaking war that started when he accepted a call for help.
Creatures & Environment
You can almost feel that you are a part of the connection between the dragonkind siblings as you learn about them whilst they play around in the skies. The environment is beautifully depicted with its own vegetation and creatures. There is no lack in the imagination and the story definitely takes you to a place far away from our own. Different kinds of species, other galaxies and many realms are just a few of the aspects we visit on our journey as the dragon fights to keep the innocent protected.
Captivation and Continuity
The calm and beautiful dragonkind society, that allows for the young dragons to play cheerfully, soon turns dark as the most powerful witch and tyrant of Ilyium, Herasa enters Skullathorn’s territory. She needs help to protect her heirs from Irod, who has been snatching her kind and starting war with the people of Ilyium. Skullathorn should have walked away, but his instinct to protect the innocent throws him into a sadder future than he wished. The action is suspense with vivid explanations of the battle at hand. The scope of this novella didn’t disappoint. It had enough dilemmas, heroic deeds and treacherous curses to justify an entire full novel.
Language & Flow
Sheri-Lynn captures all the emotions necessary for you to ache with the mother and father, includes detailed descriptions to make you understand the words nature and a variety of actions to make you understand the people’s culture. This Sword and Sorcery Fantasy series has an extraordinary prequel to a series that is imaginative and innovative. And who doesn’t like dragon-shifters?
