Drakella – Ransom of the Dead

Caught between the law, love and a secret society, will Ella achieve justice?

Catching supernatural crooks freelance, earns shitloads of money! Shitloads of money don’t mean safety though, and I knew today was going to be a rough day, with potential for a lot of violence. I hid my eyes behind the ‘Bad Boys’ sunglasses, shot Commander Procter a saluting finger with my pretend ‘Banger’ and headed down the corridor of the Supernatural Congress Unit’s headquarters.

Case noted.

A scandalous Mayoral daughter gone missing after a drunken birthday party night, a ransom note and a very unhappy Mayor. Not good for elections, the government nor the SCU. Granteor didn’t tolerate supernaturals in society and finding a missing girl among vampires, without revealing my own identity, added to the danger when having to tip-toe around the Defence Officer, Ricky and the nosy reporter, Jacqueline.

DRAKELLA – ONE-NIGHT BITE / BOOK 2 PREVIEW
Vampire and halflings were two very popular sub-sub genres when I started writing the Drakella Novellas. I wanted to make a detective series which could carry on in standalone instalments and were a short read for when readers commute or don’t have much time to commit to a big book. I also wanted to stick to my forbidden love trope and to have a strong best friend relationship in it.
It has an element of “get to know someone before you judge them”, as well as trying to highlight a strong female protagonist to help shift the gender equality mindset in society.
I like Piper, as she is an outspoken and chatty friend. I also find it humorous to write about Finley who is a character that’s always blamed by Drakella for all the evil in the world. Finley takes all the accusations calmly and with humour and knows he always has his trails covered, and makes it his ambition to tease the living daylight out of Drakella along the way.
I think that Drakella’s temper is too hot for me to handle, although I wouldn’t mind following on one of her missions just for the experience.
I could imagine Jennifer Lawrence or Emma Watson playing Drakella and Piper would be great being acted by Rita Ora.
A penthouse in the middle of Granteor wouldn’t be too bad.
This book has good old-fashioned witchcraft with potions and magical objects. The vampire characters have the restrictions of salt, garlic, cross and the usual as well as able to bite and convert humans to vampires. The races have their own languages, and they live in groups, keeping to their own kind, hiding like monsters from the Granteorians.
I think female readers in their early adulthood would enjoy this book as it has a feisty heroine with flirtatious male interactions and a nightlife feel.
