My two-year mission takes a disastrous turn when my own brother, Captain Coraly, captures the very man I was sent to assassinate; the king of our sworn enemy.

Furious, I storm into my brother’s office, threatening to quit as an agent and enrol in the infamous, cutthroat Bensguard Outpost Academy. Maybe I overreacted. Maybe. But in my rage, I signed up, and let’s just say things did not go as planned.

My brother retaliates by making me face the enemy king under my true identity…and worse, as his new teammate. The king is not pleased. Lucky for me, we’ll be soul-bound, meaning he can’t kill me without dying himself. But there are plenty of ways to make someone suffer before death comes knocking.

To make things worse, he locks his mind-shield, keeping me from listening to his thoughts that I know contain the truth behind his kingdom’s brutal attacks on my people. But he’s hiding something even darker, a secret about me. A secret that keeps him at the Bensguard Outpost, even when I offer him freedom. Something he’s willing to die for and risk my life in the process.

And soon, I realise…my life has a bigger purpose, and the enemy king isn’t my worst threat. Not even close.
